You are invited to keep coming back to A Cup of Kindness to share your experience, strength and hope; fears, doubts and insecurities; and to pick up information, inspiration … and have a little fun!
My story
In January 2007, at the age of 51, I joined a 12-step program and began my recovery from food addiction, losing 75 pounds in the process. Read more…
In January 2011, at the age of 55, I began my recovery from a multi-trauma accident, 36 fractures, damaged lungs, and post traumatic stress. Read more…
I am deeply grateful for all the kindnesses, large and small, offered to me in recovery. Here I am... alive… still making progress … still not perfect … finding a new way forward in a growing community of women and men who share a lot in common around food and life.
I hope you'll join me in this kitchen and let me know what's cooking with you.

Lovely message, and consistent with the one that I have received: “Let Go.”
Be well. Be encouraged.
Bill
Thank you, dear Bill.
A very chewy question … if you’ll pardon the term!
Beautiful artwork, nicely chosen. Is it yours?
Hi Em,
Chewy — both questions! Yes!
And, yes, the artwork is mine.
It’s a corner of a process painting I did that went from drawings of singing and dancing cake and candy, into the muddle and misery of addictive into, and through to the work of Recovery.
Love & Light,
Valerie
I love what your sponsor said, and your artwork is beautiful!
Wow! Thank you, Barb! I really appreciate your kind words.
I’ve started to peruse your website, too. There’s gold there! I’m looking forward to digging even deeper.
Love & Light,
Valerie
I haven’t done much with my website in awhile because typing is painful and I hate using voice activated programs like Dragon. But your blog is inspiring me that maybe I will try again! My story isn’t as dramatic, but I relate to a lot of the identity changes you’ve had to go through as I was a very achievement oriented person and have had to slow way down. I can’t imagine all you’ve had to go through and how much progress you’ve made in the past few years. I’m so glad we can get to know each other through the OHP Sangha.
Hi Barb,
My blog posts are much less frequent these days. My creativity ebbs and flows. And I have other outlets for sharing experiences and ideas, such as the OHP Sangha.
I’m more inclined to post after taking part in another creative activity. The process painting/transformational art classes definitely give me a boost.
The lovely thing is that it’s here whenever I’m ready to write.
I’m glad we are getting to know each other, too!
Love & Light,
Valerie
