Fox in the ‘hood!

It was 6:46am this morning. I was sitting at my desk, on the phone with my sponsor, and Miranda, the Labradoodle, made a funny noise. Something between a bark and a growl – “mmmrrrFFF.”

I opened the shades and there was the fox loping down the sidewalk. My brain couldn’t quite take it in, so at first I thought, that is a really, really big, very, very orange cat. One second later I thought, oh, it’s a FOX!

That fox was gorgeous. Some might even say foxy!

Gregory said the fox was probably out partying late and was headed home to its den.

I can see said fox in its den, settled in a comfy chair, in front of a low fire, smoking a long clay pipe, with a paw around a glass of Cognac, smiling as the rain starts, and thinking of the night’s revelry with raccoons and voles and mice.

Our neighbor Tom says, “I saw a fox late Monday evening (around 11:00 PM).  I was walking from my house… and I saw it run at tremendous speed from the Wilson’s front yard towards the church.  Whether the fox stopped for evening prayers or simply continued by to the little woods behind, I do not know.”

This fox loves our neighborhood just as much as we do. It reminds me to open my heart to the beauty of Nature all around us.

Live on, dear fox, happy, joyous and free!

Love & Light,

Valerie

What a delightful image of that fox’s home! Sounds like The Wind in the Willows and all its wonderful animals. Maurice Sendak would love this image too.

Oh yes- reminds of George Clooney as the Fantastic Mr. Fox! Lovely imagery for a cold rainy day.

Love how open you are to the fox! Often when I see them around the house, I find them a little scary. Also glad to read you are up and writing before 7 AM. I admire your motivation and commitment. …..mighty mighty.

We, too, have had a fox in our yard, hanging out under our bird feeder! It’s a thrill to see them, and it makes us feel as though, despite all its challenges, all is right with the world. Sometimes at night we will hear them calling to each other. It’s a blood-curdling cry, sounds as though someone is being tortured, but in reality they’re saying, “I’m here. Anybody want to come play?”

We have a fox in our neighborhood too. He/she is absolutely beautiful and…for better or for worse…looks extremely well fed. I try not to get too gooey about Mother Nature, because at night, especially, I can hear that it’s a very Darwinian world out there…

I just got back to this lovely blog today. I will definitely check out Susan Wittig Albert’s books! I am smiling and it feels good. Isn’t that what Thich Nhat Han says to do on awaking? Smile, he says.
